BU’s freshman goalie and two 2017 recruits put their
skills on display in last night’s All-American Prospects Game in Philadelphia,
won by Team Leclair, 6-4. Netminder Jake Oettinger played the first 30 minutes
for the victors, stopping 12 of 14 shots and displaying the strong positional
play and butterfly style that has scouts looking at him as a potential early
draft pick in the 2017 NHL entry draft. The Lakeville, Minn. native discussed
his AAPG experience and goals for his freshman season in the first in a series of
“prospect
diary” blogposts he’ll author for NHL.com this season.
Future Terrier Logan Cockerill scored an unassisted goal
in the third period to bring Team Howe to within a goal at 5-4. Midway through
the period, Cockerill raced down the right side, beating a defenseman and
jamming a shot home as he was being hauled down.SB Nation's Jeff Cox observed:
Having that second gear and getting going quickly is key to a player having what it takes to make it to the next level. Boston University recruit Logan Cockerill displayed that ability Thursday night.
His first step was evident several times throughout the game. He had that extra gear to blow by an opposing defenseman on more than one occasion, including his third period goal. He slowed down a little in the neutral zone then just blew by the left defenseman. He eventually was hauled down, but the puck slid into the net.
Defenseman David Farrance
was
+3 for Team Howe and showed off some slick passing, particularly on
power plays.
Cockerill and Farrance will be back in action with the NTDP U18s this
weekend, along with fellow 2017 recruit Brady Tkachuk, when they host
Youngstown.

2018 recruit Joel Farabee scored twice and added an assist in the NTDP U17s’ 7-2 win over
Muskegon in their home opener. The left-wing from Cicero, N.Y., who last season
rang up a 19-30-49 line in 27 games for Selects Academy 16U, was assisted on
both goals by fellow recruits Jake Wise and Jack DeBoer. Left wing Tyler Weiss recorded
his sixth assist of the season. Together

2017 recruit Ty Amonte recorded an assist in two Penticton
Vees’ wins, 6-4 over Langley and 3-2 over Prince George. The right-shot forward
has nine points
(3G, 6A) in six BCHL games.
Women’s Team
Ranked #10 in pre-season polls, the BU women’s team gets its
season underway this weekend with an exhibition game against the Whitby Wolves
on Saturday and the regular-season home opener against Providence Sunday. Both
games at Walter Brown Arena begin at 3 p.m. Admission to Saturday’s game is
free.
