Draft week begins; Oksanen signs pro contract--UPDATED

The NHL's 2016 entry draft begins this Friday evening in Buffalo with four Terriers (one current, three recruits) projected by most ranking services to be selected within the top 20 picks of the first round: freshmen Charlie McAvoy and recruits Clayton Keller, Kieffer Bellows and Dante Fabbro. Another recruit, Chad Krys, could be taken in the second round. Joining the players in Buffalo will be Terrier Head Coach David Quinn, associate head coach Albie O'Connell and assistant coach Scott Young.

►Senior forward Ahti Oksanen reportedly has signed a one-year contract with the AHL Hartford Wolf Pack. The BU fan favorite, who played defense during his first two seasons at BU, finished his Terrier career with a 51-64-115 scoring line. 

►Terrier strength & conditioning coach Sean Skahan has taken the top S&C post with the Minnesota Wild. Skahan had joined the BU staff last season after spending 13 seasons with the Anaheim Ducks.

U.S. Junior National Team Evaluation Camp

Two current Terriers and four incoming freshmen have been named to the roster for the USA Hockey Junior National Team evaluation camp. Rising sophomores Jordan Greenway (photo) and Charlie McAvoy will join incoming freshmen Kieffer Bellows, Clayton Keller, Chad Krys and Jake Oettinger in Plymouth, Michigan, beginning July 30. McAvoy and Krys played for Team USA in last year’s WJCs. The 2017 tournament will be held in Toronto and Montreal.

Looking ahead

2018 recruit Anthony Quercia discusses his recruitment to BU and plans to play in the USHL next season. The power forward was a top scorer for the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs' 16U squad last season.

In FutureConsiderations.ca’s preliminary 2017 draft rankings, BU recruit Jake Oettinger is the only goalie among the top 30 selections.

On Saturday night, legendary Terrier Coach Jack Parker was inducted into the Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame.

Stanley Cup winner Nick Bonino shaved his playoff beard at a charity event that raised more than $2,000 for the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation.

Last Friday, a group of former Terriers gathered at the Butter Brook Golf Club in Westford, Mass., for a BU hockey alumni event, followed by BBQ at the home of former Terrier defenseman and football quarterback Peter Yetten. Attending the get together—organized by Yetten and Steve Dolloff—were Jake Danby, Don “Toot” Cahoon, Steve Stirling, Bob Gryp, Gerry Gryp, Larry Abbott, Ed Walsh, Tim Kimball, Joe Robillard, Tim Regan, John Grady, Paul Giandomenico, Rick Comfort, Jack Parker, Bob Crocker, Chris Henes and Tony Ruvolo. A few former opponents, including Dick Umile, Jim Logue, Ned Yetten, Bob Rotondi and Charlie Masiello, also took part.
