Game Day: Terriers vs Northeastern in the Beanpot--UPDATED

#9 Terriers begin defense of their Beanpot tournament title as the 64th edition of the battle for bragging rights in Boston begins tonight. In an 8 p.m. start, BU takes on the team it defeated in last year’s championship game, Northeastern.  This semifinal as well as the BC-Harvard semi, beginning at 5 p.m., will air on NESN and in Canada on TSN.

The Huskies have turned their fortunes around since being swept by BU (5-4 at Agganis, 4-1 at Matthews) and bring a six-game winning streak into the tournament. Junior Zach Alston-Reese is their top point-scorer with 16, while sophomore Nolan Stevens has 10 goals and the ever-dangerous Kevin Roy recently returned to the line-up following an injury layoff. Freshman Ryan Ruck has taken over the goaltending chores.

Terriers remained in the #9 spot in the USCHO Weekly poll and they sit in the #8 spot in the PairWise rankings, which has five Hockey East teams in the top 11. BU moved up from #10 to #9 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.

Looking ahead
2016 recruit Kieffer Bellows was named USHL co-forward of the week after scoring four goals and two assists in a pair of NTDP U18s wins over Green Bay. The left-shot forward had a hand in six of the U18s' seven goals in the two games, including the game-winner both nights. Bellows now has a team-high 33 goals, equaling the number of goals he scored last season helping Sioux Falls win the Clark Cup championship.

Women’s Team
Freshman Sammy Davis earned Hockey East Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this season. The forward from Pembroke, Mass., leads all conference freshmen with ten goals and nine assists. Senior captain Kayla Tutino and junior Alexis Crossly were named to the weekly top performers list.
