JFK, LaCouvee earn Hockey East weekly honors UPDATED

Freshman forward Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson was named Hockey East’s Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week, after having a hand in all four Terrier goals in the two-game series with Providence. On Friday, with BU’s goalie pulled, JFK won the draw allowing Ahti Oksanen to snipe the game-tying goal. On Saturday, he assisted on Oksanen’s power play goal, tied the game with the first of his two goals and gave BU its first and only lead on another power play shot from the high slot.

Sophomore goalie Connor LaCouvee shared Defensive Player of the Week honors with Lowell’s Kevin Boyle. In the two games with Providence, LaCouvee stopped 64 shots for a .941 save percentage, including a breakaway on Saturday that would have given the Friars a 3-0 lead. In his last 10 periods in the Terrier net, he’s allowed just one even-strength goal and his save percentage for the season is up to .920.

Oksanen, who has scored a goal in each of the last five games, was named to the conference’s weekly list of top performers.

Terriers moved back into the top ten in the USCHO weekly poll, going from 11th to 10th, while Providence remained at #1. This weekend’s opponent, Michigan, is ranked #12.  BU remained at #11 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.

Another recap of Saturday's 3-3 tie. Coach David Quinn told the Boston Globe's Kevin Paul Dupont:

“There’s a checklist of things you need if you are going to win championships, starting with talent. If you have enough talent, then there’s about 7-8 other things you need if you are going to have success. I think we keep checking the boxes, which is a good sign.”
