Eichel claims 2016 Hobey Baker; freshman forward and captain Grzelcyk named All-Americans





Freshman Jack Eichel, the nation’s leading scorer with 70 points, who began the day as a Hobey Hat Trick finalist, concluded it with a unique hat trick of honors.  He was named an ACHA Division 1 First-Team All-American, National Rookie of the Year (Tim Taylor Award) and recipient of the 2015 Hobey Baker Memorial Award as the nation’s top player.  The honors were announced at ceremonies at Matthews Arena, where Terrier captain Matt Grzelcyk also was recognized as a First-Team All-American.

Eichel is the third Terrier to win the Hobey, following Matt Gilroy in 2009 and Chris Drury in 1998.  Kieran Millan earned the National Rookie of the Year Award in 2009.

Grzelcyk joins a long list of Terrier blueliners to achieve All-American status, including Gilroy, Colby Cohen, Kevin Shattenkirk, Tom Poti, Freddy Meyer, Vic Stanfield and Bob Brown.

Looking ahead
2017 recruit David Farrance has accepted an invitation to play for the NTDP U17s next season.  The left-shot defenseman earned USPHL 16U MVP and Defenseman of the Year honors after scoring 52 points for the Syracuse Stars. He also was named a New York All-State selection after scoring 28 goals and 18 assists in 18 games for Victor High School.
