Quarterfinal opponent still TBD; Women face BC for HE title

After two nights of opening round games, the #3 Terriers’ opponent for the Hockey East quarterfinals has yet to be determined. BU will be matched up with either 11^th seed Merrimack, which eliminated sixth seed Northeastern, or 12^th seed UMass (if the Minutemen defeat fifth seed Notre Dame in their deciding game on Sunday). New Hampshire completed a sweep of Connecticut and Merrimack ousted Northeastern with a double-overtime win. Details and scores on HockeyEastOnline.

2015 recruit Maxim Letunov scored his 22^nd goal in Youngstown’s 6-2 win over Sioux Falls. Letunov now has 57 points this season and 100 for his two-year USHL career. The 6-3 center has points in the past ten games, including eight goals. 2016 recruit Vas Kolias contributed an assist for the Phantoms, who have won 12 straight games.

#7 Terriers rode senior captain Marie-Philip Poulin’s hat trick and a three-point performance by senior Shannon Doyle to a 6-1 win against Northeastern in the Hockey East tournament semifinal. With the win—BU’s fourth over the Huskies this season—Coach Brian Durocher’s squad earned a rematch with top-ranked BC, whom the Terriers beat in last season’s title game, 3-2.

Poulin, who scored a goal in each period, got BU on the board late in the first and early in the second. Doyle and sophomore Maddie Elia extended the lead to 4-0 after 40 minutes. After the captain, who was named a Kazmaier Award finalist this week, completed her hat trick, the Huskies finally put one past sophomore goalie Victoria Hanson. Natalie Flynn’s first goal of the year closed out the scoring for BU.

BU will be gunning for its fourth consecutive conference championship and its fifth in the 10 years of the Terrier hockey program. The Terriers won their 12^th consecutive Hockey East tournament game and improved their all-time record in the tournament to 16-3.
