Maguire, Terriers blank Saints, 4-0

#10 Terriers received goals from each of its four lines and freshman Sean Maguire made his Agganis Arena debut a memorable one, shutting out St. Lawrence, 4-0.  Wade Megan’s first-period goal and Sam Kurker’s initial college marker, late in the second, produced a 2-0 lead heading to the third period. A gritty goal by Ben Rosen and a wrister in the final minute by Matt Nieto closed out the scoring, as BU upped its record to 7-4-0.

BU produced grade-A scoring chances throughout the game, especially in the middle stanza when they put 21 shots on goal before Kurker finished a Sahir Gill centering pass. SLU netminder Matt Weninger kept the game from turning into blowout as BU fired 47 shots on goal.

Maguire stopped all 21 shots he faced to even his record at 2-2, while lowering his GAA to 2.56.

Sean played extremely well tonight,” Coach Jack Parker said. “We know we have two solid goaltenders … Matt set the bar pretty high and now Sean’s caught up to the bar.”

Terriers kept the nation's top scorer, SLU captain Kyle Flanagan--Megan's high school teammate in Canton, N.Y.-- off the scoreboard, limiting him to one shot on goal.

"There is no question that BU is the best team we have played thus far," said Saints coach Greg Carvel. "Their record was a little deceptive going in because all four of their losses have come against teams ranked in the top ten.”

►Yasin Cissé picked up his first point of the season, assisting on Megan’s team-leading seventh goal.

Matt Grzelcyk, had another strong outing, but saw his six-game scoring streak end.

Alexx Privitera, who took seven shots, and Garrett Noonan were both +3 for the evening, while Ahti Oksanen, who assisted on Megan's goal, was particularly effective in the defensive zone..

Terriers had a season-low two penalties, both by Cissé, and were 29-28 in faceoff wins with freshman Wes Myron winning 8 out of 11 draws.

Next weekend, BU has a home-and-home with top-ranked BC. Both games (Friday at Agganis and Saturday at Conte Forum) will air nationally on NBC Sports Network.
